Tennessee · Disability Exemption
Tennessee helps qualifying disabled veterans through a state Property Tax Relief program that reimburses taxes on up to $175,000 of the home's market value (T.C.A. 67-5-704) — with no income limit for veterans who qualify. Because it's capped at the first $175,000 of value, it may not erase the whole bill on a higher-value home. An un-remarried surviving spouse may qualify on up to $100,000. You apply through your County Trustee. Confirm current figures with the Tennessee Comptroller or your County Trustee.

Tennessee's relief is capped at the first $175,000 of value, so on a higher-priced home it reduces — rather than eliminates — the tax line. When I help a Tennessee veteran plan a purchase or refinance, I factor the relief in at the capped level, not as a full wipe-out, so the housing-cost math stays honest. It's filed with your County Trustee.

Tennessee runs a Property Tax Relief program that reimburses property taxes on a portion of a qualifying disabled veteran's primary residence. For disabled veterans there is no income limit. Relief is calculated on up to $175,000 of the home's market value, so it may not eliminate the entire bill on a higher-value home.
